In today’s rapidly evolving world, it’s no longer enough for schools to rely on traditional rote learning methods. At Prarthana.in World School (PWS), we believe education should be about cultivating thinkers, innovators, and collaborators prepared for a globalized future. We are thrilled to announce our nomination for the Design Thinking Leaders Award—an honor that celebrates schools pioneering educational transformation through experiential learning, creative problem-solving, and collaborative learning practices.
Transformative Education Beyond Textbooks
Our educational philosophy is grounded in experiential learning—a hands-on, student-centered approach that connects academic concepts to real-world experiences. Instead of passive memorization, our students engage in activities that deepen understanding through interaction and discovery. For instance, rather than merely discussing ratios and proportions, students actively create bracelets or mix lemonade, gaining a practical understanding of mathematical concepts that makes learning both impactful and memorable.
Cultivating Skills for Lifelong Success
At PWS, we are committed to equipping students with skills essential for lifelong success. By integrating critical thinking skills, note-taking techniques, and mind mapping exercises, we prepare students to be independent thinkers with the tools to navigate complex information and solve real-world challenges. Our thinking classrooms are designed to facilitate collaborative problem-solving. Students work in small groups with multiple whiteboards to explore, discuss, and present their ideas, transforming learning into an interactive, dynamic experience that nurtures collaborative learning and boosts student confidence.
A Personalized, Play-Based Approach to Education
Every child learns differently, and at PWS, our personalized education model respects each student’s unique needs. Our approach is rooted in play-based learning principles that make education enjoyable, age-appropriate, and engaging. Through carefully curated activities and assessments, students develop a love for learning that transcends the classroom. This individualized approach not only ensures strong academic performance but also nurtures creativity, curiosity, and emotional well-being.
Our inquiry-based learning model encourages students to ask questions, seek answers, and develop a spirit of curiosity. Each unit culminates in a real-world application task, allowing students to showcase their learning in a tangible, impactful way. A recent project, for example, saw our Grade 1 students create original storybooks, combining their English language skills with a creative flair, bringing their understanding to life in a meaningful project.
Expanding Horizons Beyond Conventional Education
We believe learning should extend beyond the classroom, introducing students to unique perspectives and specialized knowledge. On World Asteroid Day, we invited the Director of the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium to discuss the science of asteroids, and on World Photography Day, experts from Toehold Photography guided students through the world of photography. These real-world applications allow our students to connect with experts and broaden their understanding of the world, sparking curiosity and inspiring them to explore new interests.
